Red Wing

"Cold and wet can knock all day but they ain’t comin’ in."

When the Red Wing Shoe Company first started making boots, people still rode horses to work. In 1905 the company set up in the quiet river town of Red Wing, Minnesota, the first boots sell for $1.75, by 1915 production tops 200,000 pairs annually. Red Wing begins manufacturing boots for soldiers in the 40’s, making 239 different sizes and widths for the army alone. The late 60’s and 70’s became a time for global expansion. Red Wing enters Canada, Mexico, South America and Europe. In its 100-year history everything and nothing has changed.

All stages of the manufacturing process are still done primarily by hand, from selecting the leather, to cutting and stitching. After the shoe is trimmed, cleaned and treated in the finishing department each one is hand inspected to make sure it meets Red Wing’s high standards.

From a tiny corner shop Red Wing has grown into the most respected manufacturer of hard working boots and shoes around the globe. Today with three facilities and hundreds of craftspeople making thousands of pairs by hand each day, Red Wing Shoe Company will continue to provide comfort, quality and durability for the next hundred years.
