Tonic Own Label Knitwear

Produced in 100% merino wool our Tonic own label knitwear is made in a family run factory north of the border in Scotland. Established in 1955 they have continued to invest in their workforce and develop the skill set. In today’s throw away world these skills and commodities are increasingly hard to find.

Merino wool is a natural fibre grown year-round by Merino sheep. Its natural benefits are so great that no other fibre, natural or man-made can match it. Here’s a few interesting merino wool facts that you may or may not know:

Breathable – Merino is a highly breathable fabric. It can wick moisture away from the body and disperse it into the air to help you stay dry. It is also efficient at releasing body heat when you’re too hot, which makes it great for temperature regulation.

Antibacterial – Its natural anti-bacterial properties will help you stay fresh. Its composition will allow sweat to stay on the surface without the unwanted smells.

Lightweight & Soft – Merino is finer than most sheep wool, which gives it a very soft feel. These fine properties can also reduce the itchiness that many people associate with traditional wool, making it very comfortable and can be worn directly against the skin.

Warmth – Merino wool contains crimps which hit each other as you move, creating pockets which trap air. Air that can’t circulate will retain heat from your body to keep you warm. Merino will also maintain it’s insulating properties when damp.

I wanted merino knitwear in our own line because it is basically an all year round garment, and one last and significant fact for you, my Dad’s favourite colour is the flannel grey….
